CERN Accelerating science

background

Technologies

The FCC has prioritised the key technologies for a reliable, sustainable, and safe machine complex and launches focused programmes for the advancement of technology within a geographically well-balanced and topically complementary collaboration setup.

Time plan

The FCC integrated programme, proposing a staged implementation of FCC-ee and FCC-hh, provides a time window of about 20 years for R&D on key technologies for boosting the energy frontier. This offers a window in which to consider alternative technologies e.g. high-temperature superconducting magnets, and should lead to improved parameters for the costs, energy efficiency and reduced implementation risks.
Iterations are ongoing as part of the FCC Feasibility Study, launched in 2020, on the different options for the key FCC-ee technologies including Radio Frequency system parameters and staging, high-efficiency klystrons, cryomodule layout and cryogenic temperature and magnet design.
